Knowledge of 阿拉伯语 as a language is a highly recommended skill in today’s global 文化. Gain basic written and 谈话al language skills in 阿拉伯语 at North Park, and begin practicing it in the the wonderful restaurants, 杂货店, 还有我们附近的商店, as well as with your fellow North Park students in the Middle Eastern Student Association (MESA).

Offering an academic 阿拉伯语 language minor with diverse approaches to experiential learning and an ecumenical Christian perspective, North Park seeks to foster understanding and reconciliation among people of different backgrounds through firsthand learning. This course is designed for students with little or no previous experience with the 阿拉伯语 language and will introduce the basic elements of modern standard colloquial 阿拉伯语 through written and 口服 usage. Emphasis will be placed upon sound recognition, 倾听的关键, 写作, and building a basic vocabulary selected from ordinary situations in everyday life. A significant cultural component of the course will introduce students to general concepts of life in the Arab world including field trips to Arab neighborhoods in 芝加哥. No credit for ARAB 1010 will be granted to students who have completed more than two years of high school 阿拉伯语 within the last five years.

The 阿拉伯语 vocabulary will be expanded as students are introduced to topics of increasing depth and complexity in a variety of concrete life situations. Reading selections will be provided from literature (including the 阿拉伯语 Bible and Quran), 文化, 还有媒体. Students will thereby be enabled to expand their 口服 and reading skills.
